FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

About Our Adhesive Mounting System

Q: Will adhesive mounts really hold in a marine environment?
A: Absolutely! Our marine-grade methacrylate adhesive is specifically engineered for harsh saltwater environments. It's stronger than traditional screws and won't corrode, loosen, or fail due to vibration. This is the same adhesive system used by professional boat builders and marine installers.

Q: Do I really need the applicator gun?
A: Yes, for the master kit with adhesive cartridge. The applicator gun ensures proper mixing and precise application of the 2-part adhesive. Our starter kits include the gun, and it's reusable for future projects.

Why Your Bond Fails Before it Even Starts

Most bond failures don’t come from the adhesive. They come from what’s sitting on the surface. Moisture, dust, and oils create a barrier you can’t see, but your adhesive feels it immediately.

The fix takes less than 5 minutes.
Before bonding:
  • Wipe the surface with isopropyl alcohol or acetone
  • Use a clean, dry cloth
  • Bond right after cleaning
That one step:
  • Removes hidden moisture and residue
  • Improves surface contact instantly
  • Gives the adhesive something it can actually bond to
Skip it, and even the best adhesive won’t hold the way it should.

Installation Questions

Q: How hard is it to install? Do I need special skills?
A: Not at all! If you can use a caulk gun, you can use our system. Each kit includes detailed instructions. The process is simple: clean the surface, apply adhesive to the mount, press firmly in place, and let cure. Most installations take just minutes.

Q: How long does the adhesive take to cure?
A: Initial set time is about 10-15 minutes. Full cure is achieved in 24 hours. You can route wires through the mounts after initial set, but wait 24 hours before putting stress on the installation.

Q: What surfaces does it work on?
A: Our adhesive bonds to fiberglass, gelcoat, plastic, metal, and most marine surfaces. The key is proper surface preparation - clean and dry surfaces ensure the strongest bond.

Q: Can I remove the mounts later if needed?
A: The adhesive creates a permanent bond, which is what makes it so reliable. Mounts can be removed with effort, but it's designed to be a permanent installation solution.

Product Selection

Q: Which kit should I buy - Starter or Master?
A: Starter Kit: Best for first-time users or single projects. Includes applicator gun, 1 tube of MARINEBOND adhesive, 3 mixing tips, and 50 tie mounts. Perfect for organizing wiring in one console.

Master Kit: Best value for boat owners doing multiple projects or comprehensive rewiring. Over 200 peice kit, including: multiple wire mount sizes plus stud mounts in varying sizes.

Q: How many mounts do I need for my project?
A: As a general rule, plan for one mount every 6-12 inches along wire runs, plus extra for securing bundles and routing around corners. Most console rewiring projects use 15-30 mounts. Our starter kit includes 100 mounts, and the master kit includes 40 mounts total.

Q: What's the difference between tie mounts and threaded mounts?
A: Tie mounts: Have a loop for securing wires and cables with zip ties - perfect for wire management.
Threaded mounts (1/4-20 and 10-32): Have threaded studs for mounting equipment, brackets, and accessories - ideal for mounting switches, small electronics, or creating custom mounting points.
